Grades & Chemical Analysis
Two air-drying long oil alkyds — the conventional grade for decorative and general industrial paints, the urethane-modified grade where through-hardening and water resistance matter. Select a grade to view its full specification.

Solubility & Compatibility
What the conventional RV124 grade will and will not tolerate in a formulation — worth checking before you commit a batch.
| System | Behaviour | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Aliphatic & aromatic hydrocarbons | Freely soluble | White spirit, xylene, toluene |
| Esters & alcohols | Freely soluble | Standard ester solvents |
| Higher alcohols | Limited | Partial solubility only |
| Lower alcohols | Insoluble | Methanol, ethanol |
| Drying & stand oils | Fully compatible | Non-polymerized grades |
| Other long / medium oil alkyds | Fully compatible | Blend freely |
| Hydrocarbon resins | Fully compatible | For hardness and gloss adjustment |
| Amino & acrylic resins | Limited | Test the specific combination first |
The urethane-modified grade is fully compatible with cellulose nitrate, aliphatic and aromatic polyisocyanates and amino resins, and shows limited compatibility with hydroxyl acrylic resins and short oil alkyds.
Bespoke Production
Need a different oil length or solids content?
Short, medium and long oil alkyds can be produced to your target oil length, acid value, viscosity and solvent system. Send us your specification and we will confirm feasibility, pricing and lead time.
